Barnes Roffe is a top 40 accountancy practice offering compliance services and tax consultancy to the medium-sized owner-managed business sector. The firm prides itself on an innovative and flexible approach to client issues. The firm can trace its history back to 1899 and ever since its principal aim has been client satisfaction and value for money.
The owner managed sector is a major driver behind the UK economy and yet the tax compliance burden loaded onto entrepreneurs is becoming more onerous at an alarming and accelerating rate. In concert with this there are more and more punitive penalty provisions leading to real financial loss to many small businesses, even those doing their utmost to remain compliant.
Business owners need to encourage their team, generate sales and foster networks rather than spend more and more time servicing the demands of HMRC. Barnes Roffe provides its clients with peace of mind in relation to compliance issues, giving them the time they need for what they do best.
Owner managed businesses, though, need so much more than control of the compliance function, important though that is. Barnes Roffe provides invaluable support in business sales and purchases and grooming businesses for such events as well as simply helping design systems of recording and reporting management data so that business owners can monitor their own enterprise’s performance. This activity, in turn, leads to assistance with the design and implementation of employee incentive schemes, group reorganisations pre-sale, and just simple modelling for maximum efficiency.
Judge - Keith Mason
Keith is a chartered accountant with over 30 years’ experience working with owner-managed businesses in both accounting (including audit) and, tax. He joined Barnes Roffe in 1998 as an audit manager but in 2002 qualified as a chartered tax advisor and in 2004 became a tax partner at Barnes Roffe’s Dartford office, where he specialises in remuneration strategies as well as reconstructions, mergers and acquisitions.
He has been a judge on local business awards for over ten years and is committed to encouraging local businesses. In his role as chair of the judging panel he is looking for something beyond mere competence (although this is crucial); he is looking for something extra, and usually it boils down to the same thing ~ a passion for delivering great client service!
For those interested in tax, he regularly presents breakfast seminars, on a range of tax issues, at the Dartford Offices of Barnes Roffe.
