Last year much loved local charity ellenor celebrated 40 years of continuous provision, enhancing lives through compassionate care.
Founded in 1985, the service began with one nurse looking after five families at home. Since then, the hospice at home care remains the main way ellenor looks after adults and children in North Kent and Bexley.
In fact, 93 per cent of such care for patients and their carers, respite and therapeutic services, is provided in the community, delivering medication, pain relief, rehabilitation and treatments.
At ellenor, even with a life-limiting diagnosis, people can still enjoy life, laugh, smile, have something to look forward to and make wonderful memories, because on top of the clinical care, there is a huge range of wellbeing and therapeutic services that ensure life is lived, including the in-hospice cinema room.
In the last 12 months, the garden has been completely redeveloped, creating a place of sanctuary.
The design ideas came from staff and volunteers, which were taken forward by the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show gardener Joshua Fenton, to create a peaceful, sustainable sanctuary for patients, families and staff.
This latest collaboration builds on a successful project in 2024, when Fenton Gardens designed a smaller therapeutic garden that has come to hold real meaning for many patients and visitors.
The project was supported through government funding allocated to capital spend, as part of a nationwide initiative to improve hospice facilities across the UK.
