The Compass Alehouse on Manor Road, Gravesend, is a popular, small, old-school style pub focusing on craft and artisanal products.
A multi-award-winning community business, the company specialises in real ales, cask conditioned beer, and whisky, and has run tasting experiences both at the pub and with internationally renowned beer sommeliers and whisky distilleries.
Owner and director John Warden said: “Over the last 12 years the Compass Alehouse has led the way in providing a safe, customer-focused, table-serviced drinking experience.
“We employ three full-time staff and 14 volunteers learning the ropes of the trade, both customer facing and cellar management.”
An additional high spot is the alehouse now running intimate music events.
Its greatest achievement is to have been placed in the Gravesend and Darent Valley CAMRA Pub of the Year competition in every single year it has been held since 2019, winning in 2022 and 2024, and runner-up in 2019, 2020, 2023, 2025 and 2026. This year it also won CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year.
